Mandarin Oriental, Shenzhen is collaborating with Chinese techno artist Wang Yuyang to showcase the "Symbiosis of Art" collaboration from now until November 30. The hotel's arrival lobby on the second floor and entrance will feature "Moon 20230619," the latest piece from Wang's renowned "The Moon" series, along with the sculpture "Symbiosis · Meticulousness" from his "Symbiosis" series.
Furthermore, limited-edition prints from "The Moon" series will be displayed at the LIAN lounge on the 78th floor, providing an immersive artistic experience across the hotel through art displays, guest rooms, and themed afternoon tea, enhancing the hotel’s artistic allure.
Inspired by nature, the sculpture “Symbiosis·Meticulousness” integrates the essence of the four seasons, the ocean, and glaciers. Collaboratively crafted by humans and machines, its significance lies in prompting contemplation of the evolving relationship between humans and technology from a conventional standpoint.
Also featured is a painting titled “Moon 20230619” showcased in the hotel’s lobby. Departing from the traditional black and white depictions of the moon captured by humans, the artist introduces a fresh perspective by infusing vibrant colors, redefining the conventional understanding of lunar aesthetics.
Concurrently with the artistic exhibition, the hotel presents the “Symbiosis of Art” art-themed afternoon tea at the LIAN lounge. Pastry chef Marc Pu has skillfully crafted four exquisite desserts, each reflecting a unique aspect of Wang’s artistry, from the elegant crescent moon-inspired Pear Chocolate Tart to the intricate Vanilla Rice Pudding that resembles a canvas adorned with chocolate details mirroring "The Moon."
Accompanying the delectable desserts, guests can savor signature drinks like the refreshing “Inspired Blue” and the fruity “Golden Canvas.” Completing the experience are freshly baked English scones served with Devonshire cream and rose strawberries, inviting guests to luxuriate in a leisurely afternoon surrounded by lush skyline views, while delving into the poetic harmony between art and culinary delights.
Wang, an alumnus of the Institute of Sci-Tech Art of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, has been teaching there since graduating. Known for his techno art, Wang’s multidisciplinary work explores the intersections of technology and art, nature and artificiality, materiality and immateriality, encompassing diverse fields such as artificial intelligence, genetic engineering, digital media, and mechanical devices.
