New students kick off semester at SMBU

New students from around the world at Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (SMBU) attended a ceremony on the university’s campus in Longgang District on Friday to mark the official start of the new semester.

The ceremony was also held online, attracting nearly 150,000 views simultaneously.

Stepan Kalmykov, the chairman of the Board of Directors of SMBU, congratulated students through a video message.

He mentioned that Moscow State University (MSU) will be celebrating its 270th anniversary this year and emphasized that MSU's exceptional teachers will provide strong academic support to help students develop into professional talent.

Moreover, SMBU is rapidly growing, introducing new majors, innovation laboratories, research centers, and institutions. Kalmykov stated that SMBU has partnered with various top research centers and enterprises, which will offer students diverse learning and job opportunities.

Li Hezhang, the rector of SMBU, gave a keynote speech, encouraging students to contribute to the creation of a global community with a shared future for all humanity.

During the event, school leaders and directors from different faculties and centers handed out student IDs to the representatives of the 2024 freshmen.

Subsequently, the school leaders and guest representatives appeared on stage together to declare the official start of the 3rd Knowledge Science Culture Festival at SMBU.

This year's festival, themed "Science Around Us," features over 110 activities including high-level academic presentations, themed exhibitions, disciplinary competitions, and arts performances.
