

Guangming District celebrates 6th anniversary emphasizing innovation

Guangming District marked its 6th anniversary on Sept. 19 with a celebration highlighting its remarkable progress over the past years.
Renowned as a center for technological innovation within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), the district has emerged as a key player in cutting-edge development and substantial investment in innovative projects.

At the forefront of the district's technological landscape is Guangming Science City, a pioneering entity that aims to establish a world-class scientific hub and an industrial technology innovation center with global influence. Over the past six years, the science city has attracted top talent, including more than 50 academicians, over 2,700 high-level professionals across various fields, over 7,400 research institute personnel, and a collective talent pool exceeding 180,000 individuals. This environment has nurtured a thriving culture of innovation and research.
The science city encompasses 24 large scientific innovation carriers spanning diverse fields and fostering collaborations between academia and industry.
Noteworthy achievements
Noteworthy achievements include the approval of the Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology (SUAT) by the Ministry of Education this year and the enrollment of the inaugural cohort of doctoral students at the prestigious Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation (SMART).
This year, strategic partnerships have been solidified with Hetao Shenzhen Park, Songshan Lake Science City in Dongguan, and institutions in Hong Kong, promoting synchronized advancements in scientific and technological innovation.

In terms of industrial growth, Guangming has witnessed the rise of significant clusters in sectors such as high-definition video displays and high-end medical equipment, with numerous enterprises flourishing within these domains. The district has attracted nine billion-level enterprises, 35 listed companies, 2,151 national high-tech enterprises, and 86 "Little Giant" enterprises.
In recognition of its achievements, Guangming Science City's Artificial Intelligence Cluster was listed among Shenzhen's top 10 clusters.
Guangming stands out as an innovation hub for synthetic biology industries, having enticed 116 synthetic biology enterprises to the region.
The education and healthcare sectors have also experienced substantial expansions, with new educational institutions and healthcare facilities being established to accommodate the growing population. Notably, BASIS Bilingual School, the district's first international school, commenced operations this semester.
In recent years, Guangming District has bolstered its educational landscape by introducing a total of 21 universities, research institutions, and schools in partnerships with prestigious organizations. The district's comprehensive education system from kindergartens to universities underscores its commitment to nurturing talent and fostering academic excellence.
Within the healthcare domain, the district now boasts six hospitals, 60 community health centers, and 368 medical and health facilities, including three Grade-A hospitals, collectively offering nearly 5,000 beds, with plans to surpass 10,000 beds by 2025.
Focus on enhancing transportation infrastructure has been evident, with improved connectivity to key hubs like Hong Kong, reflecting the district's dedication to bolstering regional accessibility. Guangming's emphasis on green spaces and environmental sustainability is showcased through its expansive park network and initiatives to promote ecological well-being.
Cultural endeavors have also been a priority, with efforts dedicated to fostering a vibrant cultural scene that complements the district's burgeoning stature as a prominent technological and industrial center.
