Shenzhen's recent round of consumer goods trade-ins has achieved positive results over the past few days, boosting market confidence that the increase in consumer spending will help bolster the economy.

Shenzhen rolled out an expansive trade-in policy across multiple sectors Sept. 7, announcing that it will earmark ultra-long special treasury bonds to boost large-scale equipment renewals and replace old consumer goods with new ones. The trade-in program mainly focuses on automobiles, home appliances, and home refurbishment.

In the past two weeks, automobile sales in Pingshan have seen sharp increases, with more consumers making purchases thanks to the program’s subsidies.

At the Haodi car dealership on the first floor of Longping Rainbow Department Store, which features BYD's Dynasty series, sales staffers are actively engaging with consumers, patiently answering questions about new energy vehicles. It is reported that new orders have increased by 15% over the past two weeks.

Similarly, at the Haoshun car dealership, which sells GAC Hongda cars, new orders have risen by 30% over the past two weeks. Sales staffers are not only highlighting the vehicles' features, but also detailing the subsidies and discounts.

Consumers who sell their old vehicles between April 1, 2024, and Dec. 31, 2024, and then purchase a new energy vehicle (NEV) or a fuel-powered vehicle that meets the National VI emissions standards in Shenzhen between April 20, 2024, and Dec. 31, 2024, will be eligible for a subsidy.

For vehicles priced between 70,000 yuan and 149,999 yuan, the subsidy for an NEV is 9,000 yuan, while for a fuel-powered vehicle, it is 8,000 yuan. For cars priced between 150,000 yuan and 249,999 yuan, the subsidy for an NEV is 13,000 yuan, and for a fuel-powered vehicle, it is 12,000 yuan. For vehicles priced at 250,000 yuan or above, the subsidy for an NEV is 16,000 yuan, and for a fuel-powered vehicle, it is 15,000 yuan.

Qualified consumers who have previously received subsidies will receive the difference according to the new standards, which are higher than subsidies announced earlier this year.

People can purchase vehicles at eligible dealerships, register their newly acquired cars, and then apply for subsidies via the WeChat miniprogram "深圳汽车置换更新".
