Representatives from international standards organizations across 20 countries and regions convened at the 2024 World Automobile Standards and Innovation Conference in Pingshan District from Oct. 22 to 24.

During the conference, China Automotive Technology and Research Center Co. Ltd. signed memorandums of understanding with the Japan Automobile Research Institute and the Uganda National Bureau of Standards, respectively, outlining cooperative efforts in electric vehicle (EV) standards, car component remanufacturing, talent development, and international standards.

Presently, 35 Chinese automobile standards, including 11 EV standards, have been adopted by the EU, Russia, Israel, and Chile.

During the conference, Pingshan District was recognized as Shenzhen's vehicle-road-cloud integration core demonstration zone, heralding a new era in the district's intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) industry. Drawing on its well-established ecosystem for vehicle-road collaboration, whole-region ICV access regulations, and rich experience in ICV commercial pilot programs, Pingshan has emerged as the frontrunner by establishing itself as the core demonstration zone for vehicle-road-cloud integration initiatives in Shenzhen.

Since August 2023, Pingshan has been enhancing its vehicle-road-cloud network, upgrading 143 locations in the district, implementing superior infrastructure, deploying additional ICV terminals, and improving network connectivity, high-definition mapping, and road safety measures.

Further advancements were announced at the conference, including the upgrading of the Bay Area Intelligent Connected Test Field in Pingshan. This facility, serving as a land-and-air testing ground, offers testing services and equipment for ICVs and low-altitude aircraft, benefiting the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and beyond.

Additionally, initiatives such as the automobile standard digitalization action, the automobile quality standard enhancement center, and the ICV standard application database were introduced at the conference, aiming to bolster the global competitiveness of China's automobile industry.

As one of Pingshan's key sectors, the new energy and ICV industry has experienced remarkable growth and demonstrates substantial potential. In 2023, the district's ICV sector accounted for 61.3% of the city's total ICV added value. Leveraging the outcomes of the conference, Pingshan is committed to continued collaboration with international standard organizations, actively engaging in the formulation of international standards.
