

Pingshan organizes 200 events for SZ Reading Month

Pingshan District is set to host over 200 activities as part of the 25th Shenzhen Reading Month, featuring an array of events such as lectures on science and technology, reading salons, and book releases, all aimed at bringing residents closer to the joy of reading in various settings.
During the launch ceremony Nov. 3, a group of individuals were honored as Pingshan District Excellent Reading Promoters, along with the recognition of several organizations for their exemplary roles in fostering a culture of reading within Pingshan.
The event also saw the announcement of the winners of the fifth Pingshan Natural History Book Award, which included notable works such as “Urban Jungle: Wilding the City“ by Ben Wilson, ”Planet of Desire: Earth in the Time of Humans” by Donald Worster, and “In Search of Silverfish” by Chen Yonghai. The awards committee received over 200 entries recommended by publishing organizations, experts, and readers, leading to the nomination of 100 books, with 30 being distinguished as excellent works.

The committee also recommended 10 books to readers, including “Under a White Sky: The Nature of the Future” by Elizabeth Kolbert, “Timefulness” by Marcia Bjornerud, “Unnatural Selection” by Katrina van Grouw, “Lost Feast: Culinary Extinction and the Future of Food” by Lenore Newman, “Ice Rivers: A Story of Glaciers, Wilderness, and Humanity” by Jemma Wadham, and “Hot Mess” by Matt Winning.
Recognizing the correlation between cultural and economic development, Pingshan has organized a diverse range of events such as lectures held in schools, enterprises, industrial parks, and communities, fostering a vibrant culture of broad reading involvement across the district. Over the past five years, the Pingshan Library has played a pivotal role by hosting more than 4,000 reading events, successfully engaging millions of readers in enriching literary experiences.
