As Shenzhen’s first urban renewal project centered on culture and tourism, Shenzhen SDG Xiaomeisha Investment Co., Ltd. is reimagining Xiaomeisha as a dynamic international destination. The project brings together the city’s stunning mountains and coastline, advanced transit systems, global brand partnerships, and Shenzhen’s unique industrial strengths.
Xiaomeisha aims to be a flagship for Shenzhen’s cultural tourism initiatives, a lively “lifestyle and industry” hub for the Greater Bay Area, and a premier seaside retreat that blends “green and vibrant” living. This project enhances Yantian’s natural beauty, infuses the district with fresh energy, and supports Shenzhen’s high-quality culture and tourism development.
Xiaomeisha Sea World (under trail operations)
Following more than four years of extensive upgrades, Xiaomeisha Sea World officially reopened for trial operations on Oct. 1, attracting over 15,000 visitors eager to experience the revitalized attraction on the first day alone.
Covering a total area of 60,200 square meters, with a construction area of 132,500 square meters and a total water volume of 40,000 cubic meters, the newly renovated oceanic theme park now features five major exhibition zones. These include the Polar Pavilion, Tropical Pavilion, Whale and Dolphin Hall, and the expansive Azure Cave Hall.
Enhanced visitor experiences are a focal point of the redevelopment, with the park now boasting “five pavilions, four stages, and eight live performances,” displaying over 150,000 marine creatures alongside 200 rare species of flora and fauna. Technological upgrades include China’s first polar-themed flight theater, South China’s inaugural animatronic whale shark, the country’s first 360-degree laser projection show, and advanced sound and lighting effects.
The park’s highlights include a massive cylindrical tank showcasing “sardine storms” and a 360-degree laser projection show with stunning visuals and storylines featuring mascots.
Visitors can explore 17 interactive zones that merge traditional marine displays with cutting-edge multimedia, such as 3D and holographic projections that bring marine life and oceanic culture to life. The Polar Flight Theater offers an immersive experience, simulating sensations of weightlessness and flight.
Positioned as a leading cultural and tourism hub, Xiaomeisha Sea World now combines marine conservation, science education, study tours, and entertainment to create a comprehensive attraction for all ages. The park’s redevelopment integrates themes of experiential engagement, ocean and technology, and education with entertainment.
Xiaomeisha Resort (under trail operations)
The highly-anticipated Xiaomeisha resort and Shenzhen MGM Hotel in Yantian District started trial operations on May 1, marking a highlight of the district’s golden coastal tourism carnival, which began with a cultural and tourism promotional event at the resort on April 30.
“A brand-new sea world is set to open this summer in the Xiaomeisha area,” announced Li Sida, deputy director of the district’s bureau of culture, media, tourism, and sports, before the April 30 event. He noted that beyond offering a superb seaside resort, the area will host more international water sports competitions and beach music festivals, provide diverse aquatic recreations, and create an ideal coastal setting for wedding ceremonies. “Xiaomeisha is being transformed into an international coastal destination,” he added.
Li Lin, executive deputy general manager of Shenzhen SDG Xiaomeisha Investment Development Co. Ltd., outlined the refurbishment schedule: “The renovation of the Xiaomeisha area is expected to be completed by 2025. At that time, the Diaoyutai Boutique Hotel Shenzhen and MX by MGM Shenzhen will also open here, joining the Shenzhen MGM Hotel as the first hotel cluster operated by Diaoyutai MGM Hospitality in Guangdong Province.”
The carnival features a variety of engaging activities for tourists, including a kite exhibition along the seaside, aquatic performances, and art installations. Yantian District has also introduced three new tourism routes, and shoppers can find substantial discounts at ONE MALL and Dameisha Outlets.
Due to ongoing construction in parts of the resort, a capacity limit on daily visitors has been implemented. Tourists must book visits online at least one day in advance via Xiaomeisha’s official miniprogram before visiting.
Xiaomeisha Diecui Lake Country Park (under construction)
Xiaomeisha Diecui Lake Country Park, spanning nearly 390,000 square meters, shines like a brilliant emerald nestled in the embrace of Maluan Mountain. This peaceful, hidden gem by the sea offers a harmonious blend of lush greenery and clear blue waters, serving as a tranquil urban escape.
The park features a variety of scenic trails: the Diecui Green Trail winds through dense forest, the Blue Trail follows the water’s edge, the Exploration Trail ventures deep into the mountains, and the lake-view platforms at various heights offer stunning natural vistas. Each pathway invites visitors to connect with nature, feeling its strength and serenity. Three lookout platforms offer unique perspectives on the sweeping landscapes of mountains and sea, giving guests a chance to enjoy the scenery from every angle.
The park also offers a unique setting for mountain weddings, a family-friendly learning area filled with resources for kids to explore nature as they play. With its deep valleys, crystal-clear lakes, and the surrounding Maluan Mountain range, the park creates a dynamic landscape that shifts with every view.
Most notably, Diecui Lake is home to around 49 protected animal species that roam freely between the forest and water, embodying the beauty of ecological harmony. The park’s trails are designed with respect for the natural ecosystem, preserving its balance and integrity. Diecui Lake Park actively promotes eco-friendly habits, encouraging visitors to appreciate nature, live sustainably, and help protect this valuable environment.
Here, in Xiaomeisha Diecui Lake Country Park, every living creature tells a story of nature, and every breath echoes ecological harmony. It’s not just a green haven for relaxation but a living classroom where people can experience the synergy between humanity and nature, feel the pulse of the natural world, and become part of its conservation and sustainable growth.
