Shenzhen Port’s annual container throughput has exceeded 30 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) again this year, following the same milestone in 2022, according to the city’s transport bureau Wednesday. This marks a 13.7% year-on-year increase. In 2022, Shenzhen became the fourth port worldwide to exceed 30 million TEUs in annual throughput, joining Shanghai, Ningbo-Zhoushan, and Singapore.

With a designed annual throughput capacity of 3 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), Mawan is China’s first smart port upgraded from conventional dry bulk/general cargo terminals, according to its operator China Merchants Port. It is also the first 5G-based smart port in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It has five berths that can accommodate the world’s largest container ships. Xinhua
