Construction of the headquarters of a global data receiving station network for commercial remote sensing satellites began Dec. 4 in Baguang, Kuichong Subdistrict, Dapeng New District.

With an estimated investment of 847 million yuan (US$116.85 million), the headquarters project will include the development of a headquarters building, a data center, an industrial incubation area, and an industrial clustering area.

As a crucial component of the global network of commercial remote sensing satellite data receiving stations, the project will provide real-time sensing data and distribution services to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the South China Sea region. The facility is expected to receive signals from over 40 satellites annually and will manage and distribute petabyte-level data collected from space.

Utilizing state-of-the-art satellite reception equipment known for its reliability and sensitivity, the facility will process all data from remote sensing satellites at the headquarters to support the operations of the global network of remote sensing satellite data receiving stations.

Upon completion, the project will establish a national-level experimental platform, academic workstations, and a college-enterprise cooperation platform. It also aims to consolidate resources in satellite manufacturing, research and development, sensors, drones, aerostats, satellite measurement and control, and space-related big data processing.
