Yantian District recently hosted the “Eyes on Yantian” cultural exchange event to promote its internationalized neighborhoods and improve experiences for both domestic and international visitors.
The event, jointly organized by the Foreign Affairs Bureau, and the Culture, Media, Tourism, and Sports Bureau of Yantian District, invited seven international residents to explore the district’s natural scenery and cultural landmarks while contributing ideas to improve its international appeal.
The participants, who live and work in Yantian, visited key sites within the Haishan and Meisha international blocks. They began their journey at the the Dameisha Beach, where they helped identify problematic English on public signage and suggested corrections to enhance the area’s accessibility for international tourists.
While at the beach, attendees also enjoyed vibrant dance performances before heading to the Qixi Library for a tour. The day concluded at the Dameisha Outlets, where participants enjoyed performances and had tea-time talks.
The event served as a platform for cultural exchange and mutual understanding, giving participants deeper insights into Yantian’s unique offerings. Cecilia Rosemary Tun, a participant from the U.K., shared her impression, saying, “Compared to Shekou, I love Yantian more. It’s quiet and beautiful here.”
Through initiatives like “Eyes in Yantian,” the district aims to optimize its international language environment and improve services for expats. By incorporating feedback from foreign residents, Yantian continues to develop as a global community that is inclusive, welcoming, and convenient for people from around the world.
