

Bao'an's competitiveness ranks 4th in country

Bao'an District has climbed to fourth place in the 2024 edition of China’s Top 100 Districts by Comprehensive Competitiveness, rising by one position compared to the previous year, according to the China County-Level Development Monitoring Report 2024.
The report utilizes a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation index system that covers economic strength, scientific and technological innovation, green development, people’s livelihoods and well-being, and county (district) governance.

Bao’an District’s GDP has increased significantly, climbing from 384.7 billion yuan (US$53.01 billion) in 2020 to 520.2 billion yuan in 2023. In the first three quarters of this year alone, the district’s GDP reached 382.957 billion yuan, reflecting year-on-year growth of 6.8%.
Currently, Bao’an District boasts over 7,229 national high-tech companies, a figure that has placed it at the top of the country’s counties and districts for seven consecutive years. The district has also developed 685 innovation platforms of various types, including eight that are recognized at the national level.
In the realm of green development, Bao’an has made concerted efforts to manage volatile organic compounds (VOCs). As a result, three industrial companies in Bao’an have been awarded special subsidies for their VOC reduction contributions.
Additionally, the district has constructed a total of 796.2 kilometers of greenways, hiking trails, and walking paths. Since 2021, Bao’an has added 141,000 new school seats for compulsory education.
