Pingshan announced new measures aimed at integrating industries, academia, research to facilitate the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements at Central South University in Changsha, Hunan Province on Dec. 17. The university and Pingshan jointly established a national technological achievement commercialization center in 2023.

The measures cover nine areas, including joint technological research, technology transfer, and the establishment of innovation platforms. They encourage all universities and research institutes that possess academic strengths and are aligned with Pingshan's key industries to collaborate with enterprises in Pingshan.

Designed to meet companies' innovation demands in a rapidly changing market, the measures encompass a range of services, including technology R&D and commercialization of research outcomes, as well as incentives such as rental subsidies and financing options.

Since the Central South University and Pingshan jointly established the national technological achievement commercialization center in Pingshan in December 2023, the center has visited over 50 companies, universities and medical institutions, resulting in collaborations with 12 companies and the execution of 20 projects.

Many companies have praised the new measures, saying that they will enhance R&D efforts and provide companies with greater development opportunities amid fierce competition. "The promotion of the integration of industries, academia, and research will encourage enterprises to invest in technology R&D," said Yang Xuan, finance director of smartphone maker Honor.

"We hope to collaborate with universities not only in product R&D, but also in establishing labs to tackle the bottleneck in core technological research," said Chen Dong, director of Laplace's external cooperation department.

Statistics show that Pingshan hosts 204 innovation platforms, including four at the national level, 106 at the provincial level, and 94 at the municipal level. The district plans to introduce more innovation platforms and attract more top talent and teams.
