Cultural connection and establishing a career in China

Writer: Sean Upton-McLaughlin  |  Editor: Lin Qiuying  |  From: Original  |  Updated: 2024-12-26

My journey with China began back in 2001 during a high school cultural exchange program. That initial visit sparked a profound interest in the country and deepened my appreciation for its culture.

Motivated by this experience, I pursued Chinese studies in college and later completed a master’s degree focused on international management in China. These academic pursuits laid the foundation for my career bridging East and West.

In 2010, I made the decision to move to China permanently. Over the years, I worked in major cities like Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou, gaining hands-on experience in marketing, public relations, and branding.

This journey allowed me to build a dual perspective by working for both international agencies and Chinese companies, enriching my understanding of different business cultures.
