Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology has received approval from China's Ministry of Education for its establishment, the university said.
Located at Guangming Science City, the university aims to create a well-rounded academic system that aligns with national development goals and strategic industries. Professors from Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the university will collaborate to nurture talents.
The university is positioning itself as a modern research institution focusing on fundamental and cutting-edge scientific research while fostering innovative minds. It seeks to support national strategic industries, promote industry-education integration, attract top teachers, develop leading disciplines, cultivate exceptional talents, and achieve outstanding results.
Established by the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government, the university is a public higher education institution committed to creating a new type of research university with excellence in education and research. Its main campus in Guangming is surrounded by key scientific and technological facilities, emphasizing collaborations among academia, research, and industry.
Drawing on high-quality resources from top research institutions and following the model of leading science and technology universities, the university emphasizes industry-education integration, interdisciplinary studies, and talent cultivation. By bringing together exceptional educators and customizing education for individual students, the university aims to produce outstanding scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs.
The university announced June 2024 that it will start admitting its first group of undergraduate students from Guangdong Province. Students will study computer science and technology in their first year and can choose majors like computer science, materials science, or biotechnology afterward based on their interests.
According to the new trends in technological development and the requirements for the development of new productive forces, the university has initially established seven interdisciplinary colleges: College of Life and Health Sciences, College of Synthetic Biology, College of Computer Science and Control Engineering, College of Biomedical Engineering, College of Materials Science and Energy Engineering, College of Pharmacy, and College of Algorithmic Microelectronics.
After nearly six years of preparation, the university has assembled a high-level faculty team primarily composed of overseas high-level talents. This team includes 14 academicians from both domestic and international academies, 88 national-level talented professionals, with 41 professors having obtained permanent positions overseas and three foreign experts being selected for the Chinese Government's Friendship Award.
