A contemporary take on cultural heritage

Writer:   |  Editor: Lin Qiuying  |  From: Shenzhen Daily  |  Updated: 2025-01-09

An engaging exhibition is being held until this Sunday on the third floor of the Sea World Culture and Arts Center in Shekou, Nanshan District.

Visitors have the opportunity to closely explore over 300 modern art and design pieces inspired by traditional Chinese cultural heritage.

Divided into eight sections, these creations by budding design talents from Shenzhen’s higher learning institutions encompass trendy jewelry crafted from natural materials, handcrafted items featuring patterns reminiscent of the sculptures found in the Yungang Grottos, porcelain and lacquer ware, pieces highlighting Dong ethnic hand-woven fabrics, exquisite embroidery, traditional dyeing techniques including tie-dye, and nyushu, a phonetic script developed and utilized exclusively by women in Jiangyong, Hunan Province.

Join Shenzhen Daily photographer Lin Songtao on a virtual tour of the exhibition, and appreciate these innovative interpretations of Chinese cultural legacy.
