Guangming Science City ranked 7th nationally

Guangming Science City, located in Shenzhen's Guangming District, has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing the 7th position on the prestigious Top 100 Science and Technology Cities in China list. The city has elevated its position for three consecutive years, having previously ranked 15th in 2023 and 24th in 2022.

The recent announcement, made by the CCID Consulting Urban Economic Research Center, highlights Guangming Science City's rapid advancement and growth. The CCID's evaluation assessed the competitiveness and development potential of 348 science and technology cities across China using objective data on basic infrastructure, technological innovation, urban capacity, and resource support.

Established in April 2018 by the Shenzhen Municipal Government, Guangming Science City was envisioned as a focal point for cutting-edge technological innovation and scientific breakthroughs. Approval from the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology in July 2020 further solidified its role as a key area for constructing a comprehensive national scientific center within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Guangming Science City has made significant strides in key industries such as ultra-high-definition video displays, new materials, and advanced medical equipment, driven by a strategic focus on infrastructure development and talent acquisition. This focus has not only advanced the city but also benefited Guangming District, positioning it as a key hub for industrial and technological innovation. The district's total cluster size now exceeds 400 billion yuan, reflecting its growing role in the region's economic development. 

The city's commitment to cultivating high-level talent is evident through the formation of distinguished teams of top scholars, globally recognized researchers, academicians, and over 2,800 high-level professionals. This ongoing emphasis on innovation and talent has helped Guangming Science City build a complete ecosystem, from fundamental research to practical applications. Notable achievements include the successful operation of cutting-edge scientific facilities such as synthetic biology research centers, brain analysis labs, and material genomics institutes.
