Shenzhen's open and supportive community

While my time in Shenzhen didn’t coincide with its fastest growth years, I’ve seen impressive infrastructure projects and new malls spring up in Qianhai and Bao’an’s Bihaiwan area, where I live.

But what truly stands out to me is the people. Shenzhen residents are open, supportive, and genuinely willing to help. I remember once facing a tricky administrative issue in Qianhai. Not only did the service staff assist me patiently on the spot, but they also added me on WeChat to make future interactions smoother.

Many Shenzhen locals weren’t born here but have moved from other parts of China, which I believe contributes to the city’s welcoming atmosphere. This makes Shenzhen an excellent city for foreigners wanting to live and work in China, offering a diverse cultural experience along with an international vibe.

Although Shenzhen’s expat community is smaller than Shanghai’s, its size creates a closer-knit, more supportive environment among foreigners.

For relaxation, I’m a big fan of Shenzhen’s natural environment. The sea and hiking trails are never far away. I often enjoy the stunning sunsets visible from my office in Qianhai—it’s the perfect way to unwind after a long day at work.

Living in Shenzhen has been a rewarding and enriching experience, and I look forward to seeing how this dynamic city continues to evolve.
