How I came to Shenzhen

Writer: Romain D Inca  |  Editor: Lin Qiuying  |  From: Original  |  Updated: 2025-02-04

My interest in Asia began during my second year of university, when interactions with foreign classmates and exposure to different cultures sparked my curiosity about the region.

My experience with China started even before my professional career, through academic studies in the country. After completing my bachelor’s degree in France, I took a gap year to study Chinese at Qingdao University in Shandong Province. I later pursued an MBA program at the Tsing Hua University in Taiwan.

Before settling in Shenzhen, I explored several other Chinese cities, including Beijing and Shanghai, and Inner Mongolia. Ultimately, a job opportunity brought me to Shenzhen.

I arrived in Shenzhen in April 2024 to take a position at the France China Electricity Partnership Association (Partenariat France Chine Électricité, PFCE). Initially, Shenzhen wasn’t my planned career destination. But when the opportunity arose, I decided to begin my professional journey in the city.
