Writer: Claudia Wei  |  Editor: Zhang Zhiqing  |  From: Shenzhen Daily  |  Updated: 2025-03-04

Spring is synonymous with romance, and Shenzhen is no exception. The entire city is adorned with flowers in a variety of colors — pink, gold, orange, and lavender — that can be found in parks and city streets. The floral fragrances and vibrant hues intertwine, creating a breathtaking tapestry of blooms. So, grab your camera, as the beauty of the flowers is too magnificent to miss!

Pink trumpets

You don’t have to travel far to Japan for cherry blossoms. The pink trumpets in Shenzhen create an equally breathtaking tapestry of pink hues across the city.

During their peak blooming period that usually lasts through March, the pink trumpet trees blossom fully, resembling a beautiful canopy of vibrant “wind chimes” clusters.

The pink trumpet trees are fairly common in Shenzhen, although the shapes and colors of the flowers vary. Good locations to enjoy the dazzling pink flowers and golden trumpets include Gongguan South Street in Qianhai, the slope along Houhai Central River, as well as Shenzhen Talent Park and Lianhua Hill Park.

Bougainvillea

The bougainvillea is inseparable with Shenzhen’s spring season. Each bougainvillea flower consists of three petals, clustering together like a brilliant flame against the backdrop of its lush green leaves.

The Yuanling neighborhood in Futian District, one of the earliest communities in Shenzhen, is a perfect spot to view the pink and white bougainvillea spreading across its weathered walls. The branches cling to doors and railings, coiling around them and bringing the essence of spring into every home, creating a romantic hue that permeates the springtime.

Chinese roses

Lixin Lake Park in Bao’an District is known for its stunning collection of Chinese roses. The park features more than 10,000 plants of approximately 70 varieties of Chinese roses in various colors including shades of pink, lavender and yellow. Some varieties produce flowers that can grow as large as a fist, with layered petals forming diverse shapes. Set against a backdrop of lush green leaves, the flowers appear even more vibrant, with sweet and pleasant scent adding to their appeal.

Golden acacia

Perched on a small hill in the Jingmi Community Park in Futian District, the golden clusters of acacia are exceptionally beautiful even though they don’t create a vast sea of flowers.

Unlike other flowers, the petals of the golden acacia are fuzzy and spread out like wisps of smoke. During blooming, the golden-yellow, spherical flower clusters adorn the branches, emitting a subtle fragrance.

The golden acacia is tucked away in a corner of the park, but its vibrant blooms make it a dazzling sight to behold. Beneath the golden acacia is a large expanse of lush green lawn, where residents can relax.

Safflowers

Not far from the Fairy Lake Botanical Garden on Qingping Road in Luohu District, there is a wall of safflowers, an uncommon sight in Shenzhen. When these bright red flowers bloom in abundance, they bring an incredibly stunning visual impact. In the sunlight, the safflowers look like beautifully crafted satin against the wall. Their vibrant red hue captures surrounding attention, reminiscent of dancing flames. The broad and graceful shape of the flowers, combined with dense clusters, makes them particularly suitable for landscaping.
