Growing with TÜV SÜD amid Shenzhen's electronics boom

Two years after arrivingin China, I joined TÜV SÜD’s Shenzhen office in 2003 when the company was in its early days locally, with just 23 employees.

As the sole member of the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) department, I handled all electromagnetic compatibility testing, ensuring electronic products functioned properly without interfering with other devices and adhered to global standards.

With Shenzhen and Guangdong’s electronics industry growing rapidly, the demand for EMC services escalated steadily. What started as a one-person team has now expanded to 50 employees in Shenzhen and 250 across China.

Over time, my work evolved from inspecting components to overseeing the testing of a wide range of products, including mobile phones and, since 2018, new energy vehicles — mirroring the industrial upgrades in the region.
