Through a captivating performance, the dance drama unveils 400 years of history, shedding light on the unsung carving craftsmen, including the 46 named artisans from the Dazu rock carvings, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Southwest China’s Chongqing.
This performance honors the lasting legacy of these master sculptors, whose creations have made a profound impact on human civilization.
The narrative of “Tian Xia Da Zu” is set in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), focusing on a young man named Fu who finds sanctuary in Dazu town in Chongqing, where he apprentices under local sculptors. As Fu matures, he joins the sculptors in safeguarding this cultural heritage at great personal risk.
Zhang Han and Meng Qingyang will star in the production.
