The gymnasium features sleek steel framing and a dome, giving it a futuristic appearance that resembles a UFO. It previously hosted basketball games during the 26th Universiade in 2011, as well as numerous domestic and international badminton, basketball, and rhythmic gymnastics events.

Renovations to enhance the gymnasium’s functionality and amenities began in May 2024. The new wooden floors are suitable for various sports competitions.

Upgrades including a new sound system, 5G network, 4K high-definition screens, and visual identity lighting system will facilitate international-level live broadcasting and provide an excellent onsite viewing experience. A digital twin management system allows for real-time monitoring of equipment, energy consumption, and foot traffic, enabling intelligent regulation.

Its main operations center integrates security monitoring, emergency dispatch, media broadcasting, and other functions to ensure efficient coordination during sports events. A new air conditioning automation control system, rooftop photovoltaic power generation, and supercharging stations support low-carbon initiatives.

Zhang Ming, director of the Pingshan District Culture and Sports Service Center, said that after the National Games, the gymnasium will be open to the public for basketball, badminton, and other activities.
