Wandering through Jingui Village — located at the foot of Maluan Mountain in Pingshan District — is a delightful experience in spring. The clear water of the Jingui River, lush trees along the riverbanks, and blooming birdwood’s mucuna create a vibrant landscape.
“Since the river has been improved in recent years, the environment is better, and we are happy living here,” said a resident surnamed Qiu.
The 5.4-kilometer Jingui River originates south of Tianxin Mountain and flows into the Chi’ao Reservoir. Due to its mountainous environment, the river frequently faces challenges caused by mountain floods, such as mud sedimentation.
As part of a river improvement project, Pingshan District built stone dikes in the river to regulate water flow, thereby reducing erosion and damage to the riverbanks. Shijing Subdistrict has implemented rain radar, rainfall stations, and water level monitoring and warning systems to help control floods.

Among the 870 water banyan trees lining the Jingui River, many are over a century old. Pingshan District and Shijing Subdistrict have made significant efforts to protect these ancient trees. Leisure areas and campsites have also been established along the riverbanks.
Pingshan District has collaborated with companies and social organizations to encourage residents to build a green, civilized, and livable community. “We have planted 50 cherry blossom trees in Jingui Village in partnership with Tencent. When they bloom, it will create a new spot for citizens to enjoy nature,” said a staff member from Shijing Subdistrict.
The 400-year-old Jingui Village retains its unique charm — winding trails and flowing streams. Some villagers have transformed their homes into inns, while a nature-themed book room regularly hosts natural science events for children.
Sava Tomoiaga, a visitor from Romania, praised the community during a visit last week, stating, “The community in Jingui Village is well-organized, and the experience is truly delightful.”
