A unique perspective on fashion management

When I began teaching the fashion management course at the Shenzhen campus of Istituto Marangoni, I aimed to provide students with practical knowledge that went beyond design and styling.
Coming from an engineering background, I approached the fashion industry by emphasizing the crucial business aspects necessary to run a successful luxury fashion brand.
My classes covered a comprehensive set of topics, including supply chain management, product management, purchasing, and merchandising — skills that are just as vital as creativity in fashion.
For many students, like Sissi Lam who studied with me during the 2020-2021 academic year, this practical insight filled gaps that traditional fashion education sometimes overlooks. She later opened her own made-to-order garment studio in Shenzhen’s Futian District.
