35,000 posts up for grabs at Guangdong job fair in Shanghai

With over 35,000 job openings, Guangdong Province is extending an invitation to global talent at a two-day job fair that began in Shanghai yesterday.

Among the openings, over 4,000 come with annual salaries ranging from 500,000 yuan (US$69,000) to 1 million yuan and more than 800 offer salaries exceeding 1 million yuan.

The strong lineup of companies and the well-paid positions are key highlights of the fair, which has attracted 751 employers from Guangdong.

Among the participating employers from Shenzhen are over 381 private and State-owned companies, including prominent names such as Huawei, Tencent, and BYD, as well as 341 universities, primary and secondary schools, and medical institutions.

Pengcheng Laboratory — a Shenzhen-based cutting-edge research institution dedicated to fostering innovation and advancing scientific research — is offering an annual salary as high as 1.5 million yuan.

At the fair, Tencent will announce the opening of 7,000 internship positions.

“BYD has brought more than 1,000 positions to this job fair, covering areas such as R&D, production, sales, and administrative posts. We are in great need of interdisciplinary professionals in algorithms, computer science, and software,” said Xu Yunlong who is in charge of BYD’s recruitment.

At the fair’s launch ceremony, Zheng Hairong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the National Innovation Center for High-Performance Medical Devices, discussed his working experience at the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

“In the past 18 years, I have personally witnessed how Shenzhen has transformed from a technological wilderness into a national science center through institutional and technological innovation. I hope our younger generations will choose the city to realize their dreams,” Zheng said.

During a speech at the fair’s opening, Guo Yandong, founder of Shenzhen-based AI² Robotics, said his company’s rapid growth was made possible by the city government’s support. In 2023, Guo returned to Shenzhen from the U.S. and established the company. In just two years, the intelligent robotics firm has become a global leader.

“Shenzhen is the city of smart hardware. It produces one-seventh of the world’s smartphones, one-eighth of the world’s new energy vehicles, and 70% of the world’s drones,” said Guo. “It is the most suitable city for developing robots. If you are interested in robots, come to Shenzhen!”

The job fair is part of the “Millions of Talent Converge in Guangdong” action plan, which aims to attract 1 million college graduates to start businesses and work in the province this year.

To achieve the goal, Guangdong will organize “2+N” job fairs in 2025. The “2” refers to two large-scale job fairs in the province — one in Guangzhou, which took place in March, and a second in Shenzhen, which will be held this autumn. The “N” represents additional job fairs that will be held outside the province. This month, job fairs will be held in eight cities — Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Xi’an, Chengdu, Changsha, and Nanjing.
