Tiegang Reservoir’s main dam is dotted with islands of varying sizes across its waters. When viewed from above, the scattered islands create a landscape reminiscent of the Thousand-Island Lake in Zhejiang Province.

Next to the main dam lies a vast sloping grassland, but it is currently not officially open to the public.

Exiting from the reservoir’s west gate, visitors can immediately step onto the Xixiang River Greenway for a leisurely stroll. Stretching approximately 7.64 kilometers, this greenway originates at Tiegang Reservoir in the north, flows through the historic Xixiang Fair, and eventually merges into Shenzhen Bay. There are shaded walking paths, waterfront platforms, and wetland landscapes along both banks of the river.

The trail along Tiegang Reservoir is easy to walk.

To continue the leisure walk, visitors can also tour two nearby parks: the Qilongshan Park and the Jiangangshan Park.

The new hiking trail also serves as the essential route to access the second section of the Kunpeng Trail. Recognized as one of China’s top 10 hiking destinations for 2024, the Kunpeng Trail has become a hallmark of Shenzhen’s natural beauty.

Opening hours: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Route: Tiegang Reservoir — Xixiang River Greenway — Qilongshan Park — Jiangangshan Park (3-4 hours’ walk)

Public transport: Metro Line 5 to Xingdong Station (兴东站), Exit D, then take a taxi; or take a bus to the west gate of Tiegang Reservoir (铁岗水库西门站)
