Guangming to host dry land dragon boat competitions

The 2025 Guangming District Community Dragon Boat Race is set to kick off this May at the Guangming Deep Diving Sports Center, located along the southern stretch of the Maozhou River in Guangming District. This exciting event will feature a series of engaging activities, including dragon boat trials, cultural markets, and intangible cultural heritage performances.

To build excitement in the lead-up to the event, Guangming District will host a series of community activities this month, giving residents an early taste of the thrilling dragon boat races.

One of the highlights will be the Dry Land Dragon Boat Challenge, which will allow participants to experience the excitement of dragon boat racing even without water. The challenge will feature team competitions, parent-child interactions, and fun obstacle courses, enabling participants to feel the thrill of “splashing waves” and “sailing against the wind” on dry land.

The Dry Land Dragon Boat Challenge will take place in a ring format. Contestants will use customized paddles to propel dry land dragon boat props along a 50-meter track. Timing will begin at the starting line and stop when the dragon head reaches the finish line. There will be two categories: the Adult Group (for participants aged 18 and above, in good health) and the Parent-Child Group (consisting of two adults and one child aged 8-17, all in good health). Teams will be ranked according to their completion time, with the top three teams in each category receiving generous prizes.

Time: 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., April 26

Venue: Fenghuang Peiying Wenwu Experimental School, Guangming District (凤凰培英文武实验学校)

Metro: Line 6 to Fenghuang Town Station (凤凰城站), Exit C; then take a taxi
