A group of international volunteers came together in Shekou to transform the walls of the Weizai Community with a series of vibrant murals themed around child-friendly living on May 1, the first day of the May Day holiday.

This creative initiative aimed to brighten the neighborhood through artistic expression while fostering a stronger sense of community.
The mural project was part of the “International Volunteers Enter the Community” series, organized by the Shekou Management and Service Center for Expats (Shekou MSCE) in collaboration with Shekou International School and Weizai Community. The program encourages both local and foreign residents in Shekou to actively participate in public welfare, engage with neighbors, and promote goodwill. It seeks to give back to the community while fostering cultural exchange and integration between locals and expatriates.

During the creation process, the volunteers attracted considerable attention from community residents. Passersby couldn’t help but praise the murals, saying, “So beautiful!” Ordinary walls were transformed into vibrant works of art. These bright and colorful paintings not only illuminated corners of the community but also reflected the volunteers’ care and support.
A volunteer from Shekou International School, who gave his name as Aiden, said, “I’m very happy to participate in the mural project. I hope our paintings add some color to the community’s environment and brighten residents’ lives.”
Rita Yang, director of Shekou MSCE, said the center will continue organizing similar activities to encourage more people to engage in community building and help make Shekou an inclusive, international, and harmonious community.
