The “Splendors of the Sun and Moon” exhibition showcases works by 50 renowned domestic and international artists, including Paul Cézanne, Giorgio Morandi, Zao Wou-ki, Gustav Klimt, Liang Shaoji, Zhu Dequn, Giuseppe La Belluna, Pang Maokun, and Fang Lijun.

These artists employ their distinctive artistic languages to create a profound dialogue between Eastern and Western philosophies and art traditions. The exhibition is organized into three thematic chapters that explore different dimensions of existence. In the “Heaven” chapter, the interplay of light, shadow, color, and form evokes the vastness and mystery of the cosmos. The “Earth” chapter centers on themes of nature and ecology, and the “Human” chapter examines the complex relationships between humans, nature, and civilization.

Among the highlights, Cézanne’s “Two Trees” (1890) offers viewers a nearly abstract watercolor landscape. Though the composition appears “unfinished,” it compellingly conveys the artist’s emotional response to nature without fully representing it.

Morandi’s works feature everyday objects such as bottles, jars, and boxes, rendered in soft and restrained colors that create a harmonious balance. At the exhibition, his 1953 oil painting “Flower” invites visitors to appreciate the quiet beauty of static harmony.

Zao synthesized modernism, calligraphy, and traditional Chinese landscape painting. He developed a unique style characterized by contrasting colors, vigorous linework, and lyrical abstraction. His “Untitled” oil painting (1976), shown here, reveals how Zao’s paintings serve as fragments of larger scenes, exhibiting fluidity, transparency, and a graceful luminosity that reflect his inner spirit.

The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience a rich cultural exchange across time and space, inviting visitors to contemplate the shared human fascination with the universe and nature. It not only celebrates artistic mastery but also inspires reflection on the interconnectedness of all things.
