Revisit your film memories at a candlelight concert

Looking for a short escape from a hectic work or study schedule on a weekday night? A candlelight concert might just be what you need. Next Wednesday evening, the European Chamber Music (ECM), a chamber ensemble comprised of six excellent young musicians from Europe, will take the stage at the Nanshan Cultural and Sports Center Theater with a candlelight concert featuring beloved film scores that are sure to stir nostalgic memories.

Since making its Chinese debut in 2024, the ECM has received widespread acclaim, having toured 41 cities across the country last year. 

In the soft glow of candlelight, the ensemble will perform iconic tunes from “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence,” “Scent of a Woman,” “The Lion King,” “Frozen,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “The Fast and the Furious,” and more.

The group’s pianist, Iñigo M. Malo, graduated from the Conservatory of Music of Aragon at the age of 19 and later earned a master’s degree in music management from BIMM University Berlin. A winner in multiple European piano competitions, he has also served as assistant director and pianist in several musicals such as “Ku’damm 59” and “Cabaret.”

Violinist Bernat Martí, born into a musical family, studied for two years at the Madrid Royal Conservatory and later graduated with top honors in chamber music from the Parma Conservatory. He has a wealth of experience in performing with orchestras. 

Cristina Sánchez de la Fuente, also a violinist, has graced the stages of international music festivals such as Klarafestival in Brussels and Gala Fest in Córdoba. She has collaborated with several orchestras, including their tours in Europe, Russia, and China. 

Cellist Maria Biarge obtained her bachelor’s degree from the Conservatory of Music of Aragon and pursued her master’s at Codarts Rotterdam. She has won numerous awards in music competitions. 

Violist Úrsula Amargós holds a master’s degree from the Catalan Conservatory of Music. She previously served as Principal Viola for the National Youth Orchestra of Catalonia and the Spanish National Youth Orchestra. Her collaborations include performances with renowned artists such as Joan Manuel Serrat. 

Clarinetist Alejandro Villanueva completed his undergraduate studies at the Catalonia College of Music and master’s at the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art. He is the founder of an award-winning quintet that has received recognition in several international music competitions.
