Discover Wutong Mountain River Greenway
From: Shenzhen Daily
Tucked beneath the Wutong Mountain in Luohu District, a hidden paradise awaits as a perfect weekend escape from the urban hustle.
Stretching approximately 5 kilometers, the Wutong Mountain River Greenway nestles tranquilly between mountain and water, offering breathtaking scenery and a refreshing retreat from the crowds. This countryside greenway forms part of the Wutong Greenway and the 10th section of the renowned Kunpeng Trail. It underwent major renovations before gradually reopening to the public in 2022.

Unlike many urban waterways in the city that use recycled water, this river features natural flows of crystal-clear streams originating from Wutong Mountain, making the greenway uniquely special. Along the trail, old villages, dense forests and serene riverbanks weave together into a landscape full of natural charm. Water birds such as egrets and herons resting peacefully by the shore add life to the idyllic environment.
The grassy banks along the route resemble a natural carpet, providing comfortable resting spots. Visitors can sit on the soft slopes to soak in the moment when fatigue sets in. The peaks of Wutong Mountain stretch along the horizon, creating a tranquil backdrop. Although the flower bloom season has passed, the lush greenery remains vibrant and soothing, making it an unforgettable experience to hike along the water greenway. A leisurely stroll from Wutong Art Town to Dawang Village takes about an hour. The entire route is shaded by ample tree cover, providing welcome relief during the hot summer days.

The greenway also offers a variety of activities suitable for all ages, such as creek trekking, picnics, camping and even a stroll with their furry friends.
The area near the Yinfeng Bridge is a recommended picnic spot. The open water offers a wide scenic view, while the nearby parking lot ensures convenient access. Find a shady spot under the trees, set up a small table and stools, and you can easily spend most of the day relaxing comfortably. Near the Yinfeng Bridge, there is also a cafe with limited seating.
The crystal-clear river is a popular spot for some water fun. Children can trek along the creek and play in the water, discovering little fish and shrimp hiding underneath the stones.
Thanks to its mostly flat terrain, the trail is very accessible and popular among cycling enthusiasts — from groups of active seniors to young people and families riding with children.
The Wutong Mountain River Greenway is pet-friendly as well. The grassy areas along the banks provide a perfect place for dogs to roam freely. However, pets are not allowed in the water, so please keep them on dry land.

For those who still have energy after finishing the river greenway, it is recommended to extend the journey by exploring the nearby Wutong Greenway and the Shenzhen Reservoir Loop Greenway, both offering wonderful additional trail options.
