The newly finished tunnel, part of Phase III of Shenzhen Metro Line 8, has passed inspections, clearing the way for track-laying. The project’s most technically challenging segment features a single-bore, triple-track tunnel with an excavation span of nearly 24 meters — wide enough to fit a six-lane highway underground.
Running 3.7 kilometers from Xiaomeisha in Yantian District to Xichong in Dapeng, the new extension includes one underground station and a train depot.
Once operational, Line 8 (Phase III) will connect with other Metro lines to form a continuous transit corridor across Shenzhen.
