A personal contribution to CUHK-Shenzhen

Being one of the founding fellows of Shaw College has been one of the most meaningful parts of my experience in Shenzhen. I was honored to have a small role in shaping the college’s motto. Originally translated as “virtue and excellence,” I suggested a revision to make it more active and aspirational: “In the pursuit of virtue and excellence.”

I believe this phrasing better captures the spirit of CUHK-Shenzhen — an institution committed to striving continuously toward high ideals rather than merely embodying them. That simple change speaks volumes about the character of the university and its community.
