Fostering innovation through teaching

Writer: Georg W. Wimmer  |  Editor: Rao Guoting  |  From: Original  |  Updated: 2025-05-20

As a foreign professor, my goal is to cultivate innovative thinking among students, encouraging them to go beyond traditional boundaries. Chinese students are generally very diligent and grasp their subjects well. My hope is for them to build on this foundation and develop creative and critical thinking skills.

In my classes, I encourage students to think deeply by asking questions such as, “What if we change something?” or “How can we solve this problem?” This method helps stimulate their analytical abilities and fosters an innovative mindset.

I consider myself a beneficiary of China’s reform and opening-up policies, which have enabled me to pursue my academic career here with excellent conditions for research at SZTU. Living and working in Shenzhen broadens my horizon and allows me to immerse myself in Chinese culture.
