Tips for your stay

From: IN SHENZHEN

Your hotel can help with bus and train ticketing, but may charge a commission.

Almost every hotel has a left-luggage room, which should be free if you are a guest.

Ask your hotel concierge for a local map.

When you go out, take a hotel business card with the address in Chinese on it to show to a taxi driver.

Getting a bargain

With only a handful of hostels, your best bet for bargain beds are Chinese budget chains like 7 Days Inn, Home Inn and Jinjiang Inn. Facilities are generally good, although staff are unlikely to speak English. Older local business hotels also have good deals. Don’t overlook serviced apartment complexes, which offer space and convenience for a relative bargain.
