Lizhi Park

From: INSHENZHEN

Chinese name: 荔枝公园 Lìzhī Gōngyuán

Before the skyscrapers took root, groves of lychee trees could be found all over Shenzhen.

This 75-acre park in the heart of the city preserves the memory of simpler agrarian times with its dozens lychee trees. Even if you don’t have a hankering for prickly fruit, Lizhi (which means “lychee”) Park is a photogenic space, landscaped like a classical Chinese garden with whimsical moon bridges over an ornamental lake, and pavilions beneath which gather troupes of amateur musicians. It’s a popular place to come early in the morning for a spot of al fresco taichi.

There are also a few amusement rides for kids and paddleboats for rent.

Add: 1001 Hongling Zhonglu (红岭中路1001号)

Admission: free; 5 a.m.-11 p.m.

Metro: Line 3, 9 to Hongling, Exit B
