A strong desire to remain in Shenzhen

Writer: Georg W. Wimmer  |  Editor: Rao Guoting  |  From: Original  |  Updated: 2025-05-30

When I first visited Shenzhen in 2013, it was often compared to Silicon Valley in California. Curious, I explored the city as a tourist. After settling here, I grew to appreciate the city’s multitude of activities — from beach outings to mountain hiking — as well as the well-kept parks and efficient public facilities. Shenzhen’s extensive public transportation makes traveling convenient, and the city’s friendliness towards foreigners makes it a welcoming home.

SZTU’s International Week is a fine example of China’s continued commitment to openness and global collaboration. The event features diverse international courses, campus tours, corporate visits, a Bavarian Cultural Night, and a high-level International Forum.

In 2023, it attracted over 70 international guests, including professors, scholars, and students. This event reflects the university’s — and the city’s — open-minded approach to fostering international exchanges and cooperation.

Given all these aspects, I feel strongly connected to Shenzhen and hope to stay here longer. The efficiency of the city, the practical education at SZTU, and the welcoming environment for international academics and students alike have deeply impressed me and fueled my enthusiasm for contributing to this vibrant community.
