On May 30, an intangible cultural heritage exploration event titled “Love Shenzhen, Explore Together!” was held at Splendid China • China Folk Culture Villages, a popular tourist destination in the city.
Organized by the Shenzhen Academy of Chinese Culture and the International Education Center Harbin Institute of Technology Shenzhen, the event brought together 30 international students from Morocco, Yemen, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Russia.
The journey began with an awe-inspiring display of miniature replicas of China’s most famous landmarks — from the Great Wall to the Forbidden City, and from the tulou (earthen buildings) of Fujian to the dazzling skyline of modern Shenzhen. The students marveled at how these meticulously crafted models highlight the distinct architectural styles of different regions, providing a visual feast that spanned thousands of years.
Later, in a traditional Chinese courtyard, the students admired the artistry of Suzhou embroidery, which is renowned for its delicate silk threads and lifelike depictions of nature, and the horsetail embroidery of the Shui ethnic group, a rare craft passed down through generations and celebrated as a “living fossil” of Chinese textile art.
Under the guidance of a skilled instructor, the students tried their hand at needlework and learned to craft bamboo bags.
