Shenzhen has recently opened the application process for this year's environmental pollution liability insurance subsidies for enterprises.

The subsidy program aims to encourage enterprises to voluntarily purchase environmental pollution liability insurance, enhance their environmental risk management capabilities, and advance ecological and environmental protection efforts in Shenzhen. Eligible entities can receive a subsidy equal to 20% of the actual insurance premium paid in the previous year (exclusive of tax).

Shenzhen has expanded the scope of insurance claims to include damages caused by insured parties to the ecological environment, to facilitate timely restoration of polluted environments. Shenzhen’s Environmental Pollution Liability Insurance refers to a compulsory insurance that covers compensation liabilities borne by enterprises, institutions, and other producers or operators for personal injury, property damage, or ecological damage to third parties caused by sudden environmental incidents or pollution during production and operation activities.

According to the Shenzhen Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau, this subsidy is targeted at enterprises, institutions, and other producers or operators that are not included in the list of “Units Required to Participate in Mandatory Environmental Pollution Liability Insurance,” but voluntarily purchase the insurance.

Applicants must meet the following criteria: the insured property must be located within Shenzhen; the insurance contract term must have expired; the application for subsidy must be made within one year after the contract term expires; the insurer must be an insurance company or branch approved by the insurance regulatory authority, and the insurance contract terms must be the formally approved version. Eligible applicants can apply online via the Shenzhen Municipal Finance Special Funds Unified Management Platform.
