City on camera before a storm

Writer: Joshua Fernadez  |  Editor: Lin Qiuying  |  From: Original  |  Updated: 2025-06-19

As Typhoon Wutip approaches Guangdong, the skies over Shenzhen begin to turn gray, casting a moody atmosphere across the city. Typhoon season in Shenzhen brings unpredictable weather to the region with a mix of sudden downpours, strong winds, and volatile temperatures.

Each year during this season, I head out on a few rainy days for a photowalk to capture the city on camera right before a storm hits. These photos were taken near Chegongmiao Metro Station in Futian District. During these moments, the city quiets down, the streets empty out, restaurants close early, and delivery drivers rush to complete their final orders before a rainstorm hits.

Typhoon season offers photographers a unique chance to see and document Shenzhen in a different way. So don’t forget to bring a raincoat and stay safe out on the streets!
