Shenzhen Bay Park
From: IN SHENZHEN
Chinese name: 深圳湾公园, Shēnzhènwān Gōngyuán
One of Shenzhen’s best features is this coastal promenade and park that flows along miles of reclaimed shoreline from the Futian Mangrove Ecological Park in the east all the way to Shenzhen Bay Bridge at the southern tip of Nanshan District.
The full route is loosely divided into 13 sections, some with unique features like rocky bays or birdwatching points. A good place to start is at Shenzhen Bay Park metro station, where there is direct access to the park.
It’s a leisurely hour-long bike ride from the metro station west to Shekou (about 8km), with fine coastal and skyline views along the way. The bike lane weaves between the shoreline and under the shade of palm trees just inland. Along the way are several lookout points, rest pavilions and public loos, but few snack stalls or shops to disrupt the peace and serenity (so you will need to bring your own water). The park is illuminated beautifully at night. Note that you can’t cycle in the park between 9 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
