Phoenix House

From: IN SHENZHEN

Chinese name: 凤凰楼, Fènghuáng Lóu

From the gold-trimmed décor to the crisp white tablecloths, Phoenix House is a staunchly old-school spot in which to sample the Guangdong foodie culture of zǎo chá (dim sum), served daily until 3.30 p.m.

Arrive later and you get the “zao wu cha” menu, which combines a pared down selection of steamed buns and the like with heartier Cantonese mains. A must-try signature here is the chén cūn fěn (steamed rice sheets), a speciality from the Guangdong foodie heartland of Shunde. Go for the version covered in plump garlic shrimp (蒜蓉鲜虾蒸陈村粉).

The tick-box menu is Chinese only; English photo menus are available on request.

Tel: 82076688

Add: East Wing, Pavilion Hotel, 4002 Huaqiangbei Road (华强北路4002号圣廷苑酒店东区1-3楼)

Metro: Line 3, 7 to Huaxin, Exit C
