The Joy Theater (official English name to be announced), a new waterfront venue, will open Sept. 26 on the west side of OH Bay in Bao’an District. Situated by the sea with the Bay Glory Ferris wheel as a backdrop, the theater serves not only as a performance venue but also as a cultural hub for exchanges across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Shenzhen, and for dialogues between art and urban life.

The theater’s inaugural performance on Sept. 26 is the “Story Song” concert, which will feature Chinese baritone and musical actor He Liangchen; musical actors Ju Hongchuan and Zheng Qiyuan; and pop bass singer Wang Xi. In the sea breeze, audiences will enjoy these four versatile vocalists delivering a diverse program that blends Chinese and Western operatic and musical classics during the two-hour concert.

The Joy Theater redefines performance spaces through its innovative integration of sea and cityscape, featuring a 3,790-square-meter water stage that blends music with the sound of the sea. The Bay Glory Ferris wheel also becomes part of the stage aesthetics, creating an immersive seaside experience where art meets nature.
