The opening ceremony for the “Electronic, Electrical and Integrated Circuits” sector of the 2025 World Vocational College Skills Competition was held at the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology (SZIIT) on August 27.
A total of 153 teams from vocational colleges across China competed in the four-day event. The competition is aimed at students in electronic information and integrated circuit-related programs and covers core industry sectors including electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing, computer communications and other electronic equipment production, special equipment manufacturing, and repair of automotive electronic products.
The top-performing teams will represent China in the placement rounds of the World Vocational College Skills Competition finals, according to organizers of the event.
In his keynote remarks, Chen Jiansheng, a second-level inspector with the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, said Guangdong has aligned vocational education with national strategy and the needs of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, building a full-chain industrial ecosystem for integrated circuits and fostering companies and products with international competitiveness.
He highlighted Guangdong’s "Specialized Integrated Circuit Talent Training Plan," which has built a seamless talent development system from secondary vocational to specialist and undergraduate levels, supplying a significant number of skilled professionals to the industry.
Chen called on vocational institutions to intensify focus on electronic information and integrated circuit fields to accelerate cultivation of technical talent needed for high-quality industrial development in Guangdong and across China.
On behalf of the host institution, Miao Ningli, Party secretary of the SZIIT, said that SZIIT supports national “manufacturing power” and “Digital China” strategies and pursues an industry-driven, demand-oriented education model.
SZIIT has established China’s first independent microelectronics college among higher vocational institutions and launched a “Strong Chip” ecosystem alliance covering the full integrated-circuit industry chain.
Miao said SZIIT will use the competition to advance industry-focused teaching, introduce new technologies and processes into training, and implement the principle of “promoting teaching, learning, reform and construction through competition” to produce more high-quality technical talent for the sector.
