The video, produced by Shenzhen Daily to mark the V‑Day anniversary, follows David Kerr, the son of Flying Tigers lieutenant Donald W. Kerr, as he retraced the path his father took through Tuyang Village in Shenzhen on Aug. 29. In 1944, after a Japanese attack in Hong Kong, his father was rescued by the Dongjiang Column guerrillas and brought to safety in what is now Shenzhen.

Since 2008, David has made regular visits to renew old friendships, retrace his father’s escape route and help keep this history alive.

This visit, coming on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti‑Fascist War, made David’s trip an especially meaningful commemoration of mutual cooperation.

As David said, “When we work together, we can accomplish almost anything.” He added, “I hope that in the future Chinese and American people can not only be friends, but work together to solve common problems in the world.”
