The event also marked BGI’s 26th anniversary. Under the theme “Health and Beauty for All,” the launch highlighted the company’s continued effort to translate cuttingedge genomics research into practical, industry-ready solutions that improve wellbeing.

Yin Ye, CEO of BGI Group, said in his keynote speech that technological innovation must be paired with accessibility and affordability. “BGI aims to leverage its self-developed gene technologies to make the latest advances in life science both accessible and affordable to the public,” he said.

Precision health was a focal point of the unveiling. BGI is pushing healthcare from a reactive model toward proactive health management through intelligent and digital technologies. The company introduced personalized gut microbiome solutions. After microbiome sequencing, customers will receive a detailed profile of their gut community and tailored recommendations for microbiome regulation and health management.

The solution based on BGI’s new precision health management model that emphasizes individualized, lifecyclewide care. By integrating genomics, multiomics analysis and artificial intelligence, the model generates personalized health risk maps to identify potential disease risks and produce customized plans for lifestyle optimization and medical intervention — covering prevention, screening, diagnosis and longterm management.

This systematic health management approach is powered by advanced intelligent platforms and laboratory solutions that leverage automation and modular designs to enhance the efficiency of health data collection and analysis. These innovations enable rapid deployment, addressing diverse health needs across populations.

The anniversary event also underscored BGI’s commitment to global health systems through a “One Health” approach that recognizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, plant and environmental health. Leveraging digital and sequencing technologies, BGI introduced “sampletoresult” testing workflows that improve the speed and accuracy of pathogen detection and response, including rapid sequencing tools capable of delivering precise analysis within hours.

Genomics also featured in the company’s food safety and agricultural innovations. BGI launched a “Land-to-Table” food safety system that uses DNA as a unique genetic ID to trace products through the supply chain, quickly detecting adulteration, verifying origins and safeguarding quality.

On the agricultural front, BGI showcased innovations such as perennial rice and maize varieties that regrow after harvest to reduce labor and costs, and microbial fertilizers that improve soil health while lowering chemical inputs — measures that boost yields while reducing environmental impact.

BGI’s approach represents a shift from reactive problem solving to proactive prevention. Its vision, “Health and Beauty for All,” ties human wellbeing to a healthy planet and demonstrates how genomic technologies can benefit individuals, farmers, governments and the environment.

BGI was established in 1999. A turning point came in 2007, when the organization moved its operations to Shenzhen and expanded from a research institute into an industrial leader with a global reach.
