Wandering in Huafu: 3 routes and more hidden gems
From: Shenzhen Daily
When you hear the name Huafu Subdistrict, it may not immediately ring a bell — but its landmarks, such as Shenzhen Central Park, Bijia Hill Park, and UpperHills, will instantly tell you where it is.
Located in central Futian, the subdistrict has many hidden gems. The“Wandering in Huafu” map presents three itineraries and recommends more than 80 spots, restaurants, shops, and hotels.
The maps are currently available in Chinese and can be picked up at the duty-free shop in UpperHills, at transportation hubs, major tourist attractions, and partner stores; an English version may be released soon.
Three itineraries:
‘UpperHills and nature’
Start at Bijia Hill Sports Park, where you can relax and breathe in the fresh air amid lush greenery. The intelligent fitness facilities — featured in Taiwanese actor Eddie Peng’s vlog — make for an invigorating morning workout.

Next, head to the UpperHills shopping mall to sample cuisines from around the world or browse Galeries Lafayette and Shenzhen’s first downtown duty-free shop. The mall’s colorful architecture also makes it a great photo spot.
As evening falls, enjoy tea at a teahouse at Bijia Hill Park and watch the city at dusk, soaking up a moment of tranquility amid the urban hustle. Finish at the hilltop viewing platform to admire the city’s dazzling night scene — a spot nicknamed “Shenzhen’s La La Land” for its resemblance to Mia and Sebastian’s “A Lovely Night” dance scene in the film “La La Land.”
‘Gourmet and art’
Begin at Gangxia North Metro Station, nicknamed the “Eye of Shenzhen” for its futuristic interior. Resembling an interstellar wormhole, the station’s grand dome and sleek structure offer an architectural spectacle that feels like a journey through time and space.
From there, stroll to Fuzhong Road to enjoy dim sum at Cantonese restaurants or sample other local specialties. In the afternoon, immerse yourself in the creative atmosphere of Tianmian International Cultural and Creative Town, or visit Shenzhen Central Park to view its public sculptures.
At sunset, pass through the Huangmugang underground space to reach Shenzhen Sports Center — you may catch a pop concert or a sports match to continue an exciting evening.
‘Family fun’
Spend quality time with your children at the recreation area in Bijia Hill Park, then explore more family-friendly attractions and dining at UpperHills. In the afternoon, hop on an autonomous sightseeing cart to tour Shenzhen Central Park and enjoy the outdoors.
As the sun sets, visit the McDonald’s flagship “McDonaldland” restaurant at Tianmian International Cultural and Creative Town for a fun-themed dinner on mascot benches amid plenty of photo opportunities.
