Public benefit concerts for October

Shenzhen Concert Hall continues to present diverse performances in its two public benefit series this October. Audiences will enjoy romantic French art songs and intimate chamber music.


Waterside melodies

Mezzo-soprano Li Ying.

On the afternoon of Oct. 19, mezzo-soprano Li Ying, together with Belgian pianist Renaat Beheydt, will present a lecture-concert dedicated to French art songs. 

A graduate of the École Normale de Musique de Paris and a laureate of the Léopold Bellan International Vocal Competition and the Emma Calvé Vocal Competition, Li has performed at the Paris City Hall and at various European music festivals. Since returning to China, she has performed in Ye Xiaogang’s opera “Yongle,” Shenzhen’s original opera “The Pioneer,” and American composer Dylan Ebrahimian’s chamber opera “The Vows of Love.”

For this concert, she will perform works including Fauré’s “Au bord de l'eau” (“By the Water”), “Les berceaux” (“The Cradles”), and “Chanson du pêcheur” (“Fisherman’s Song”); Henri Duparc’s “L'invitation au voyage” (“Invitation to the Voyage”); and Debussy’s “Nuit d'étoiles” (“Night of Stars”), among others. Her voice will weave a romantic afternoon of love and dreams for the audience.

Strings, woodwind and piano

The musicians for the concert on Oct. 26.

On Oct. 26, a lecture-concert will be performed by several musicians who are teachers, outstanding students, or graduates of the School of Music at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. 

The performers include flutist Yuan Long, American bassoonist Benjamin Moermond, Yang Xinyi, Huang Zilan, Yu Ruixi, Zeng Zishan, Jia Haotian, and Mao Chengyu. The ensemble will perform works by Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, Weber, and Bizet.

Time: 3 p.m., Oct. 26

Tickets: 10-30 yuan


Afternoon Music Time

On Oct. 25, five young musicians currently studying at the School of Music of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, will present a classic-infused woodwind quintet concert. 

The ensemble includes flutist Qiu Yue, oboist Zhang Hongxian, horn player Dai Min, bassoonist Xia Wenyang, and clarinetist Yang Muyuan. 

Admission is free, but tickets are required. Follow the WeChat account of Shenzhen Concert Hall (ID: szyinyuet) to reserve tickets.
