Conference converges global insights on computer science

The ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) Turing Award Celebration Conference China 2025 was held in Shenzhen from Saturday to Sunday, attracting nearly 1,000 renowned scholars, researchers, and young students.

They discussed frontier topics such as AI and big data, contributing to the advancement of computer science.

Organized by Shenzhen University (SZU) this year, the conference featured two main forums and 14 thematic forums, covering cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, big data, and cyber security.

Li Qingquan, secretary of the Party Committee of SZU, emphasized in his opening speech on Saturday that as a hub of innovation both in China and globally, Shenzhen provides strong new momentum for the development of computer science. He stated that SZU will continue to leverage its strengths in artificial intelligence and computer science to contribute to technological innovation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Chen Guoliang, co-chair of the ACM Turing Award Celebration Conference China, noted that hosting the conference in Shenzhen carries special significance. As an innovation hub, the city is home to more than 2,000 AI enterprises and 67,000 robotics-related companies, providing a uniquely fertile ground for the development of artificial intelligence and computer science. He emphasized that at this critical juncture, as AI and computer science transition from theoretical breakthroughs to reshaping human civilization, Shenzhen must adopt an open approach to pool global wisdom.

Hopcroft expressed that what students learn in university should not focus solely on technical knowledge, but rather on soft skills. He also encouraged young students to cherish their time and pursue what they truly enjoy doing.
