Shenzhen Bay Culture Square, a striking new cultural landmark, is expected to open to the public by the end of this year, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

Designed as a pioneering design and culture complex, the facility aims to become a highly accessible public destination. With its façade now complete, the project team is inviting nickname suggestions from residents.

Located beside Shenzhen Talent Park, the complex occupies a 51,000-square-meter site and has a total built area of 188,000 square meters.

The master plan centers on an open green plaza. Reception areas, standard exhibition halls, public education spaces, a library, an auditorium, a theater, a café, and supporting retail spaces are integrated into the ground plane and recessed into the terrain so they remain unseen from above.

The development is composed of a north pavilion, a south pavilion, and a themed exhibition hall, with smooth, monolithic forms resembling monumental stones. From the top floor of the south pavilion, visitors can move through exhibition spaces onto a viewing platform with sweeping views of Shenzhen Bay and the city skyline.

The themed exhibition hall’s highest space, which soars to a height of 30 meters, can accommodate a diverse display of large-scale installations, videos, multi-media, and performances.

Its nine professional galleries will offer 50,000 square meters of exhibition space, supported by a 20,000-square-meter, state-of-the-art collection storehouse. Among the permanent offerings is a gallery that traces the evolution of design culture, while the Crafting China thematic gallery explores how Chinese handcraft traditions are being reimagined within modern industry.

An international gallery will bring major global exhibitions to Shenzhen through partnerships with leading institutions, such as the Design Museum in London and Tate Modern, enabling residents to experience world-class shows locally.

In March, Shenzhen Bay Culture Square signed a memorandum of understanding with the Design Museum in London, becoming the museum’s first strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific region — marking a new chapter in cultural and design exchange between Shenzhen and London.
